Fecundability is the probability of achieving pregnancy within one menstrual cycle (20% to 25% per cycle). Fecundity is the ability to achieve pregnancy resulting in a live birth within one menstrual cycle (4% per cycle).

For nulliparous women (i.e., women who have never borne children), the average time during which the women and their partners engage in instances of unprotected intercourse from initiation to conception is 5.3 months. For parous women (i.e.,
those who have borne children), the duration is 2.7 months. Even after correction of the cause for infertility, achieving pregnancy may require several months.
