The symptoms of PMS fall into one of four temporal patterns (Fig. 99-1).5 The most severely affected women report having only one symptom-free week per month; some may experience such a disruption of lifestyle in the affected weeks that a return to normal relationships and activities in the postmenstrual week is virtually impossible.
