Diabetes associations
Diabetes associations have been established in most countries, including the UK (Diabetes UK), The USA (American Diabetes Association), and Australia (Diabetes Australia). Membership of these associations consists of lay people and health professionals who work together to develop management policies and educational material/ programmes for the care of people with diabetes.
Diabetes Australia
Diabetes Australia (DA) is the national diabetes organisation in Australia. It has branches in all states. A magazine, Diabetes Conquest, is produced quarterly. A national diabetes supply scheme (NDSS) is administered through Diabetes Australia and allows diabetic equipment (blood and urine test strips, syringes, meters) to be purchased from DA selected outlets at subsidised prices. People must enroll in the scheme, and a doctor’s or Credentialled Diabetes Educator’s (CDE) signature is required on the enrolment form. There is no cost to enroll. Supplies can be ordered and received by mail under this scheme. Insulin is not available through the NDSS scheme.
