True sarcomas of the thyroid are quite rare and must be differentiated from anaplastic cancers with sarcomatoid features. Careful analysis has disclosed several cases of thyroid sarcoma, including leiomyosarcomas, osteosarcomas, chondrosarcomas, fibrosarcomas, and angiosarcomas.45,46 Of these subtypes, angiosarcomas are most common and are found most frequently in regions of iodine deficiency (another term is heman-gioepitheliomas).
