In the early 1940s, it was demonstrated that bilateral lesions in the ventromedial hypothalamus (VMH) of animals caused hyperphagia and obesity (see Chap. 8 and Chap. 9).1 Some years later it was shown that lesions in the lateral hypothalamus (LH) resulted in aphagia and finally death.2 These results led to the
