CLASSIFICATION OF OVARIAN NEOPLASMS
The World Health Organization histologic classification divides neoplasms of the ovary into 14 main categories (Table 102-1).1 Of the listed classes, functioning tumors are most often surface epithelial–stromal, sex cord stromal, germ cell, secondary (metastatic) tumors, or a tumor-like condition. The clinical staging of ovarian cancer is based on the guidelines of the International Federation of Gynecologists and Obstetricians (Table 102-2).2
