Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).

Characterized by a marked production of autoantibodies, SLE usually affects the connective tissues but can involve multiple organ systems, including kidneys, joints, skin, and blood.

Juvenile dermatomyositis (JDMS).


17.1.4 Clinical Definition


Characterized by vasculitis under the skin and in the muscles, resulting in skin rash and gradual muscle weakness and fatigue; also frequently involves skin, lungs, heart, joints, and gastrointestinal (GI) tract.

Vasculitis.


17.1.6 Clinical Definition


Destructive inflammation in blood vessel walls, which can result in dysfunction of multiple organ systems.


17.1.7 Name of Disorder


Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA).


17.1.8 Clinical Definition


Most prevalent arthritis in children, with onset <16 years of age, characterized by inflammation, pain, stiffness, swelling, warmth, and/or damage/deformity of joints; can also cause altered bone growth.
