Dr Ilson has invited an outstanding group of experts in the diagnosis and treatment of esophageal and gastric cancer. This group has included an article on novel targeted therapies for esophagogastric cancer by Drs Maron and Catenacci from the Section of Hematology/Oncology at the University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer Center. Contributions by international colleagues include the article entitled, “The Asian Perspective on the Surgical and Adjuvant Management of Esophagogastric Cancer,” by Drs Kurokawa and Sasako from Japan. Last, the emerging role in gastric cancer for minimally invasive surgery is discussed by Drs Cassidy, Gholami, and Strong from the Department of Surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
I would like to thank Dr Ilson for organizing this outstanding group of authors on the subject of esophageal and gastric cancer. This extensive issue of the Surgical Oncology Clinics of North America should be shared with young investigators, and radiation, medical, and surgical residents in training.
