Syndromes and synonyms: Granuloma inguinale, granuloma venereum.



Agent: Klebsiella granulomatis, formerly Calymmatobacterium granulomatis, a Gram-negative facultative aerobic coccobacillus.



Reservoir: Human.



Vector: None.



Transmission: By sexual contact. In children with no history of abuse, the route of transmission is unclear. Several reported pediatric cases have been in contact with infected adults, but without evidence of sexual contact.



Incubation period: Approximately 50 days, but varies.
