Mechanism of Action
Acts as a photosensitizer in tissue exposed to light wave lengths >600 nm delivered by a laser to destroy tumor cells.
Indications
Palliation for esophageal cancer refractory to laser therapy.
Metabolism/Excretion
Intracellular metabolism; eliminated at the cellular level.
Dosage Range
♦ Adult: 2 mg/kg IV push slowly over 3 to 5 minutes, followed in 40 to 50 hours and 96 to 120 hours with laser therapy.
